Inaugural post

It's probably best in this first post to explain a few things. Like, for example, why this is called "The Urban Vizsla". Or why anyone would ever invite a small, rust-coloured tornado into their home.

The first question is quite simple - the name "Urban Vizsla" makes me feel cool, organized, and sophisticated. It's meant to distract me from the muddy dog prints on my floor, kitchen cabinets, and pants. Although, perhaps I should look at those as some sort of avant-garde fashion statement. Like leopard print, or snake skin... Regardless, it's just to create an illusion of calm in an area of my life where there is none.

The second question is a little bit more difficult. The long story starts with the line "for as long as I can remember, I've wanted a dog". But the more simple version is this: I love dogs. Always have, always will. As soon as my husband and I were in a position to get one, we did. And then we went ALL IN and got the world's most incredible beast, the vizsla. She is wild, and crazy, and full of crap (literally and figuratively). But she is also unbelievably loving, and follows us around everywhere we go. The way I look at it, all puppies are insane and are lucky to survive their first year. As a very nice man at the dog park told me today, for the entire first year of his dog's life, he kept imaging her stuffed on a cart with wheels. But now she's 9 years old, and he can't imagine life without her. And that feeling right there is why dogs are amazing. No matter how insane they make you at first...

My mother encouraged me to start this blog. Probably she was tired of me complaining to her about the new rotten thing Amsterdam's decided to do today (currently it's pulling table cloths off the dining room table). Or may be she just thought I needed a hobby other than watching YouTube videos of dog tricks. Whichever it is, I will try to post every now and then about city life with a juvenile, but hopefully maturing, vizsla!
